We will also be electing the 2012 Leadership Team.

DPW provides all of the equipment and we do the work. If you have never been to a clean-up you should try it, it is a fun event. After working we go out to a neighborhood eatery for lunch. Monthly Meeting - Spring Fling! Monday April 18 - 6:30PM - 8:30PM Dunya, 1609 Polk Street near Sacramento Spring is in the air! Instead of a regular meeting come socialize with your friends and neighbors. Have some great mid-eastern food and a beverage or 2. It will be a great time. Appetizers will be provided. MPNA members will get 1 drink on us. Non members will be asked for a $5.00 contribution. So bring your friends and neighbors and have fun!

Special Bulky Item Pick-up for Middle Polk Residents

Have you ever wondered how to stop sidewalk litter of unwanted household items? Well, wonder no more!

MPNA is teaming up with DPW and Recology to promote an educational program focused on letting Neighbors know the proper (and much less costly) way of disposing of used and no-longer needed goods and articles.

Did you know that sidewalk dumping costs the City FOUR TIMES the expense of disposing of goods the right way?

Every Residential Trash Service Customer of Recology in San Francisco already pays for hauling and dumping service! It's factored into your trash collection rate. Residential Customers already pay for 2 FREE "Bulky Item Collections" per year, per address. Those of us who live in Apartments and pay the Apartment Rate for trash collection also pre-pay for this service; in this case Landlords pre-pay for 1 FREE "Bulky Item Collection" per year and every individual Apartment also pre-pays for 1 FREE "Bulky Item Collection" per year, per unit.

Here's how it works: Simply call Recology at 626 4000 to set an appointment time for your Curb-side Pickup - Required; Tag your articles with an "RMJ" (Recycle My Junk note - Required). BUT! BUT! - There's One More Thing! - We have a Special Promotion going as part of this Educational Drive. On Saturday March 26, 2011 - Every Middle Polk Area (that's Van Ness to Leavenworth and California to Broadway) Resident who pays for trash service - be it the Residentail or Apartment Rate, gets ONE FREE ADDITIONAL "RMJ" (Recycle My Junk - Unwanted Articles/Goods) Pickup. You need only to call 626 4000 ahead of time to schedule an appointment for Saturday March 26 - and get on the Recology Pickup List. Then bring your "RMJ" goods to the curb with an "RMJ" tag affixed to them.......and that's it! It's Done! It's Cheap! and.......it helps keep Middle Polk Clean and Beautiful.

Middle Polk Monthly Clean-up

Come out and join your friends and neighbors keep our neighborhood clean. The September Clean-up is Saturday the 18th (always the third Saturday of the month). DPW provides the equipment and we provide the volunteers. Last month we also cleaned up the mini-park on top of the Broadway Tunnel. It looks great!

PICK-UP-ON-POLK! #3

MPNA thanks everyone who participated in Pick-Up-On-Polk! #3. It was a great success. Over 100 volunteers cleaned up Polk Street from Market Street to the Bay.

Over half of the volunteers came to the Celebration Lunch at Rematch Sports and met friends and neighbors for a pizza lunch.

The groups that participated in the clean-up were the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association, Russian Hill Neighbors, Russian Hill Community Association, Lower Polk Neighbors, Aquatic Park Neighbors, Larkin Street Youth and Walgreens.

Supplies for the Celebration Lunch were donated by Walgreens, Cala Foods and Whole Foods.

A special thanks to Rematch Sports for providing the site for the party.

Saturday July 17th, 9:45am - noon
As part of the District 3 Clean Team Day the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association is coordinating multiple neighboorhood groups along Polk Street to clean-up the entire length of Polk Street, from Market Street to the Bay. We are looking for at least 25Middle Polk volunteers and 100 total volunteers for this fun event.

There will be a great party after the clean-up.

If you want to volunteer for this event, please contact Dawn at 314 0772 or dawn@middlepolk.org. We need helpers to coordinate the event and volunteers for the event itself.

Monthly Meeting

Monday July 19th, 7 - 8:15PM (always the 3rd Monday of the month) at It's A Grind, 1800 Polk at Washington. The featured speaker at our July Middle Polk Neighborhood Association Meeting will be District 3 Supervisor and President of the Board of Supervisors David Chiu. David will be discussing the state of our Neighborhood, District 3 and the City. Also, Planning Commissioner Gwyneth Borden will be joinng us to talk about the Planning Commission and how Neighbors can most successfully present their causes, cases and concerns.

The Middle Polk Neighborhood Association planted 2 Magnolia trees on Polk Street between Sacramento and Clay, in front of Good Vibrations. The Department of Public Works (DPW) provided the manpower for which we are greatful. We hope to plant more in the coming months.

Election Day is Tuesday June 8th. Please remember to vote. Have your voice heard!

The MPNA June clean-up is Saturday the 19th (always the 3rd Saturday of the month). Come join us keep our neighborhood clean. We meet at It's A Grind, 1800 Polk Street at Washington at 9:45AM and clean from 10AM to noon. We usually have lunch at a local eatery after the work is done.

The MPNA June meeting is Monday the 21st (always the 3rd Monday of the month). The main topics of discussion in June will be the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) plans to build a massive facility on Cathedral Hill and the proposed development at the site of the abandoned church at the corner of Clay and Larkin. All are invited.

Saturday May 8th, 11am - City- Wide Health Summit, focused on proposed changes of CPMC. There are major changes planned for Healthcare Delivery for San Francisco - big plans are in the works for a major new campus at Van Ness and Geary. Join your Neighbors at It's A Grind, 1800 Polk at Washington and work together to spruce up our fine Neighborhood. DPW provides all equipment - we provide the people-power and fun. Get to know your Neighbors, break bread afterward - if you have the time. This is a great way to get to know your Neighbors and directly benefit our Neighborhood. Monday May 17th, 7 - 8PM (always the 3rd Monday of the month) at It's A Grind, 1800 Polk at Washington - Our May Middle Polk Neighborhood Association Meeting features the fabulous and entertaining Melissa Griffin of the SF Examiner. Melissa explains the Ballot Initiatives facing us voters this June - in a fun, educational and easy-to-understand way. There are several Judge positions open - and many of the Candidates will be stopping by to provide a quick intro and overview of their platforms. The SFPD will be providing an expert update on what's up crime and safety-wise and a few friends and neighbors will be stopping by to provide updates on key topics. Tuesday May 25th, 5-7PM - Van Ness BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Citizen's Advisory Board meeting at 100 Van Ness - The Van Ness BRT proposes many transit changes - some neighbors love and some don't. MPNA has won the Neighborhood Empowerment Network (NEN) Comeback Neighborhood of the Year Award!

The Middle Polk Neighborhood was honored by the City of San Francisco at the NEN Awards as the Comeback Neighborhood of the Year.

MPNA's Name "The Slogan" Contest - The Cigarette Litter Abatement Program

The Middle Polk Neighborhood Association (MPNA) invites you to enter our Cigarette Litter Abatement Slogan Contest! Entries must be in by December 8, 2009.

MPNA and the Department of Public Works (DPW) are conducting a pilot program aimed at decreasing cigarette litter on Polk Street from California to Broadway. According to the City of San Francisco's 2008 Litter Audit, cigarette butts, wrappers, and packs are among the top causes of street litter. MPNA, with the support of our great City partner, DPW, have installed cigarette-butt receptacles near the front doors of several Middle Polk-area Business partners. Also ashtrays have been added to about a dozen City trash receptacles to further support our efforts. You can help make this campaign a success by coming up with a fun slogan or tag line that will inspire smokers to use the new cigarette litter receptacles.

MPNA is coordinating a clean-up of all of Polk Street from Market Street to the water. There will be 7 neighborhood groups participating. We are looking to get 100 volunteers working together on this incredible event. Please come join in on the fun, meet more of your neighbors and clean-up our beautiful Polk Street and neighborhoods. DPW provides all of the equipment and we provide the volunteers. There will be a Celebration Lunch (pizza and beverages provided) at noon with Special Guest Speakers.

August Clean-up

The August monthly clean-up will be held on Saturday August 15 (always the third Saturday of the month). We meet at It's A Grind, at the corner of Polk and Washington at 9:45 AM and work until noon. Le Beau Nob Hill Market, at Clay and Leavenworth, is hosting a special BBQ Lunch for all volunteers after the clean-up. Lunch will cost only $5.00 and all volunteers will receive a special gift.

August Meeting

The August monthly meeting will be held on Monday August 17 (always the third Monday of the month). The meeting is at It's A Grind, at the corner of Polk and Washington at 7:00 PM and goes for an hour. Arrive early to check in and get some coffee.

This month the San Francisco Fire Department will be discussing household and neighborhood safety and Ed Reskin, Director of DPW will be discussing neighborhood concerns including curbing those unwanted newspapers and handbills. DPW will also discuss the upcoming reconstruction of California Street (from Van Ness to Drumm) and the new blight ordinance.

Come and have your voice be heard.

NERT Training

The Neighborhood Emergency Response Team training has finally been scheduled. The training is done by the fire department and teaches preparedness and response techniques in the case of an emergency.

The training will be held at the First Congregational Church at the corner of Polk and Bush from 6:30PM until 9:30PM for 6 consecutive Tuesday evenings starting on Tuesday August 18.

Now that the amazing election is over we can think about upcoming MPNA events.

Our November clean-up is on Saturday the 15th. Come out and join friends and neighbors in keeping our neighborhood clean and beautiful.

Our November meeting is on Monday the 17th. Sandra Zuniga of DPW and the head Pastor of Old First Church will be our featured speakers.

In December we will have our second annual Holiday Party and Fund Raising Raffle. The party will be held at Amelie Wine Bar on Polk near Washington on Monday December 15 at 7PM, instead of our monthly meeting. We will again be raffling off great local merchant prizes. There will not be a December clean-up as the third Saturday is the 20th and is too close to Christmas.

Lower Polk Meeting
- On Tuesday October 7 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, our friends from the Lower Polk Neighbors (LPN) are having a special presentation by the San Francisco Department of Public Health on TRAFFIC CONGESTION & TRAFFIC NOISE and its effects on our health. Environmental Health Specialist, Tom Rivard will present. All are welcome, please share this invite with your neighbors and friends. This meeting will take place at the First Congregational Church, 1300 Polk Street, at Bush.

Monthly Clean-up

The Middle Polk Neighborhood Association’s (MPNA’s) next Neighborhood Clean-up will take place on Saturday October 18 (Clean-ups are on every 3rd Saturday). This month will be special in that we will join the Department of Public Works in their Clean Team Day for District 3. We have several options for this clean-up, all starting at 9:45 AM at It’s A Grind, 1800 Polk at Washington:

- Our regular Neighborhood Clean-up. DPW provides all supplies and equipment, we provide the volunteer time. Meet your neighbors and new friends while doing something that will make a difference in our Neighborhood. We’ll clean the sidewalks of the neighborhood from 10 AM to Noon.

- DPW will be leading a special clean-up of the little park that is on top of the Broadway Tunnel; upper Broadway at Hyde/Leavenworth. Plenty of volunteer spots are open for cleaning, sweeping, weeding and helping DPW with some of the more complex work.

- Many neighbors have asked how they can be involved with the fight against graffiti and tagging. DPW has a successful program addressing this called Graffiti Watch. MPNA had an initial training for volunteers for this program last year, now it’s time to include more volunteers. DPW provides all of the training and supplies to clean or paint over graffiti that is on public property, or as they term it, street furniture (i.e.; mail boxes, streetlamp poles, transformer boxes and the like). In return for the training and a very well equipped tool and supply kit, DPW asks for a 2-year commitment to the program and an agreement to care for a specified area. If your interested in participating in this program, we need to know by October 13; please contact Dawn at TrennertDawn@yahoo.com or 314 0772. We need at least 5 new volunteers to pre-register in order to have this training.

-After our Clean-up of the sidewalks and park and Graffiti Watch training, we’ll meet our friends from LPN for lunch, provided by DPW. This will be at a Polk Street restaurant TBA. Join us for lunch.

Monthly Meeting

Our MPNA October meeting will be on Monday October 20 (always the 3rd Monday of the month) from 7 to 8 PM at It’s A Grind, 1800 Polk at Washington. We’ll be focusing on Ballot Decisions at this meeting and we’ll feature Melissa Griffin, Political Writer for the San Francisco Examiner. All are welcome to join us.

District 3 Supervisor Candidate's Debate - June 16

Join us for our first candidate debate, Monday June 16 at the Holiday Inn on Van Ness between California and Pine, Lower Level. Arrive by 6:40PM for sign-in, opening remarks and a crisp start to the debate at 7PM. The debate will continue until 8:30 after which we'll have an open forum, meet and greet half-hour. 9 of the 11 registered candidates will be participating.

Why attend this debate?
Because our current Supervisor, Aaron Peskin will be termed out in January. We must select a replacement in the November election. Remember, we have ranked choice voting for this position (see www.sfelections.org/demo). This means that you will have the opportunity to choose three candidates, in order of your preference, for this position. How do you pick three candidates? You hear them address the most important issues at the same time in the same environment - At MPNA's June 16 Debate!

Our City, District 3 and our Neighborhood are undergoing many changes and facing many challenges. We need the right leader representing District 3 in City Hall. We need a representative who understands the problems and concerns of our area and has a practical, skillful and effective way of addressing them. Many neighbors have submitted their questions and concerns to our Debate Planning Team. We've crafted them into topics and questions. What are the answers? Find out Monday evening at the Debate.

What are you concerned about?
Safety and crime abatement? Cleanliness and beautification? Having a family-friendly place to raise your kids, run your dogs? Our independent bookstores? Those businesses that make our neighborhood so interesting, so San Francisco!

MPNA Accomplishments

Our Spring MPNA meetings and clean-ups have covered a
wide range of topics and turf.
Our April Clean-up brought 45 neighbors from Middle Polk and our friends from Lower Polk together. We swept the sidewalks and gutters from Broadway to Geary. We had a special team working with DPW's Bureau of Urban Forestry. A great team it was. After a brief training session, members set out to care for tree basins throughout the Middle Polk and Lower Polk Neighborhoods, including all of the trees on California Street from Hyde to Van Ness. They cleaned and weeded the tree basins and then groomed them by laying down a layer of decomposing granite, a material that will keep the weeds out and let the water in. This decomposing granite also makes clean-up around the trees much easier. A celebratory lunch was held at Helen Wills Park.

There was more to celebrate in Middle Polk.
On April 2, 2008, the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association was honored by receiving the prestigious 2008 Safety Network Community Leadership Award for the Central District. At this awards ceremony, MPNA also received the following awards: The California State Senate Certificate of Recognition signed by Senator Carole Migden, The California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition, signed by Assemblyman Mark Leno, The California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition, signed by Assemblywoman and Majority Whip Fiona Ma, a Certificate of Recognition and Leadership Award from the District Attorney Kamala D. Harris, a Certificate of Honor from the City and County of San Francisco signed by Mayor Gavin Newsom, a Certificate of Honor from the Office of the Assessor-Recorder of the City and County of San Francisco signed by Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Safety Network signed by Director Quentin Mecke.

The Middle Polk Neighborhood Association is deeply grateful and honored to have received these most valued awards. Thank you to our members, volunteers and supporters who made this possible.

November's Monthly Events

CLEAN UP
In November, our monthly cleanup (third Saturday of the month) took place on 11/17. The winds had stirred up a lot of debris along the streets that week, so we had plenty to sweep up. DPW's trucks were circling the neighborhood to pick up our trash bags as we went along. Our next cleanup is December 15th.

MONTHLY MEETING
Our monthly meeting was on 11/19 at It's A Grind at 7pm, as usual on the third Monday of the month. As usual, we heard from SFPD and our various committees (planning, beautification). Our merchant spotlight featured Barbara Patinkin, owner of Classic Communication on California at Polk. We also heard from The Prado Group, the developer who will be redeveloping the Cala Foods property in coming years. Adam Light from the SF Planning Department was on hand to introduce himself and his department's work. We also heard from Lisa Hoffmann and Cecile Soto from SF's Emergency Service Center (ever wondered how those 911 calls get managed and routed??)

To commemorate the end of our first year as a neighborhood organization, we recognized key contributors who have helped build the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association:

We honored one of our neighbor/volunteers Rachel Markowitz as a neighbor who has attended more meetings and cleanups than anyone we can think of! She has always been a strong neighborhood supporter, both with her words AND her actions. Thanks for making an active difference in our first year, Rachel!

An obvious merchant choice, we also recognized the owners of It's A Grind, Michael and Netta Fedor, along with their staff, for giving us the run of their coffee house for our meetings each month. They also hosts numerous Leadership Team meetings, are the meeting point for all our cleanups, and they devote real estate in their basement to our cleanup supplies. This is truly the 'home base' for Middle Polk! Where would we be without your generosity? Thank you, Michael, Netta and the It's A Grind staff!

To honor one of the year's biggest civic contributors, we recognized Northern Station's former Captain Kevin Dillon. He was around long before MPNA ever existed. Once we began to take shape he was a constant for us, providing advice, input and listening to our many concerns about neighborhood crime. He provided much input and helped us learn what we could do as a neighborhood to make a difference. He's retired from SFPD now, and we'll miss his frequent contact and input, not to mention friendship. We assured him that even in retirement, he is more than welcome to come grab a cup of coffee at our meetings every third Monday of the month!

MONTHLY MEETING
October's monthly meeting took place as usual on the third Monday of the month at It's A Grind on Polk Street at 7pm. We had a merchant spotlight on Elizabeth Shypertt from Velvet Da Vinci (2015 Polk) and covered the following items on the agenda:

CLEAN UP
Thank you to all our volunteers who join us each month, and all those who just come when they can. The bad weather lifted that day and we had sunshine for our cleanup, before heading to Victor's Pizza for lunch.

Employing a ZERO TOLERANCE for illegal dumping on the sidewalks, we called 311 to report abandoned trash that should be removed by either DPW or the scavenger company. Remember, old furniture, computer equipment, appliances and other over-sized pieces of trash should NEVER be abandoned on the sidewalk in the hopes that it will just 'go away'. This puts the burden of cleanup on tax dollars and a struggling city budget! If you have furniture or bulky trash items you would like to get rid of, please call one of the scavenger companies for a special trash or recycling pick-up. They will both instruct you as to when and where to put the items so that they can get them in a timely manner, and you won't be 'trashing' the neighborhood. Thanks!

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 8 - District Attorney Kamala Harris Event

District Attorney Kamala Harris and Chief Assistant DA Russ Giuntini addressed 140 Middle Polk and Lower Polk Neighbors on crime abatement efforts in our neighborhood. The Golden Gateway Holiday Inn graciously donated a meeting room to the Lower Polk and Middle Polk organizations to hold the event.

Extra attention and extra efforts of support were announced (such as borrowing current high tech equipment from the Dept. ef Justice for use by Sergeant Vanderbilt of Central Station for prostitution abatement Efforts) for our neighborhoods. The DA and Chief Assistant DA committed to paying close attention to quality-of-life crimes, understanding that they lead bigger issues and crimes. They want to partner with us in our efforts. It was a great demonstration of how citizens and our officials can work together to make significant improvements in our daily lives.

Our Misdemeanor Judges from Superior Court will be joining us to talk about their view of the treatment of ‘Quality of Life’ crimes in our neighborhood. We'll be talking about Traffic Calming initiatives available to us and asking for leadership of our Trees and Beautification Program. The leaders of the neighborhood responses to construction/developments in the neighborhood will update us.

An amazing 75 volunteers joined together, via 5 neighborhood groups, to clean the entire length of Polk Street on August 18 for our Pick-up on Polk! event. Better news; the groups want to do it again!

We'll talk about San Francisco's Traditional Community Court and how you can be part of it. Mohammed Nuru, Deputy Director of Operations from DPW will talk about our clean neighborhood initiatives and how DPW supports us. Our Supervisor, Aaron Peskin will talk about the new City budget, developments in the neighborhood and how the neighbors can most effectively provide their input on these new developments and neighborhood safety.

We’re planning a special neighborhood clean-up called Pick-up on Polk! Five neighborhood organizations will get together on the morning of August 18 and clean the entire length of Polk Street, from Market Street to the Bay with the help of DPW and the District 3 Clean-Team Initiative. Join us!

Graffiti Watch Comes to Middle Polk!

When you see the fashionable neon green volunteer vests and safety goggles, you'll know who we are.

Look out...about a dozen of us from Middle Polk were trained to remove graffiti from city property in our neighborhood this week. SF's DPW provided us with some basic supplies to scrape, dissolve and paint over that pesky graffiti that has been cropping up all over this city.

Interested in getting some tools and training so you too can hit the streets? Email MPNA or contact DPW's Merle Goldstone directly to learn about the next scheduled training.

Less hands on? Please help us from the sidelines by always reporting graffiti when you see it (on public OR private property). You can call the city's new all-in-one phone number "311", or report it online here.

MONTHLY EVENT KICKS-OFF WITH SUCCESS

The neighbors came out in droves to kick-off our first monthly CLEAN-UP event on Saturday, 3/17. Thanks for your time, everyone!

DPW was there to meet us in front of It's A Grind with 40 sets of brooms, dust pans, gloves and orange vests. We hit the streets at 10am to sweep and bag-up debris. By noon we had earned an appetite, so regrouped to have lunch at the Bell Tower Restaurant (who gave all volunteers 50% off lunch; thanks Bell Tower!)

We also raffled off merchant gift certificates for all volunteers (present or not). Ed Kling was a big winner with the Bell Tower gift certificate for $50, and Barbi Tice won the $25 Molte Cose
Boutique gift certificate. Congratulations, and thank you to Molte Cose and the Bell Tower.

Our neighborhood clean-ups will happen every third Saturday of the month. Signing up helps us know how many supplies we need, but is not required. Just show up and bring a friend!

On March 2nd, another man was found standing on the sidewalk near Grove St.
and Laguna St. with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to San
Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The
suspect was described as an African American male, about 15-21 years old,
5'7" tall and about 180 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with dots, gray sweatpants and white Air Jordan shoes. The suspect fled on foot. We are currently seeking information on the suspect.

On March 3rd, a man was found with a gunshot wound in the courtyard of the
Ammel Park Housing Complex. The man was transported to San Francisco
General Hospital where he later died. The suspect is described as an
African American male wearing an orange and black baseball cap and black
clothing. We are currently seeking information on the suspect.

If you have any information regarding the above three incidents, please
call the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444. The tip line is staffed 24
hours a day and calls are not recorded. The anonymity of the caller will be
respected in all cases.

Assistance from the community is essential. Those persons who come forward
with information and have concerns regarding their safety may be eligible
for Witness Protection Program services.

Kicking off "Pick Up on Polk" - March 17, 2007

Thanks to DPW (Department of Public Works), we have two formal programs in which the neighborhood can participate to help clean things up around here! Email us for registration details for either of these events:

ADOPT-A-STREET: March 17th clean-up party
To kick off the Adopt-A-Street program in this neighborhood, join us on Saturday, March 17th for our first neighborhood 'clean-up' party. Get involved in resetting the standard for how clean we want our streets to be. DPW will provide the materials and will also be joining us with a sidewalk steaming machine to focus on Polk -- thanks, DPW!

Schedule:
9:45 am -- Meet outside It's A Grind (1800 Polk)
10:00 am -- Divide and conquer in two's with brooms, bins, bags and gloves
12:00 pm -- Reconvene at the Bell Tower for lunch!

GRAFFITI WATCH -- Training on April 7th
We've scheduled a training session on April 7th for those who want to get involved in the formal Graffiti Watch program. Being a Graffiti Watch volunteer in this neighborhood will send the message to the street that we won't tolerate graffiti. Again, DPW will provide the materials and the know-how to help us help them keep the graffiti at bay.

Report Prostitution in the Middle Polk Neighborhood

If you witness street activity that appears to be associated with prostitution, the most important thing you can do is report it to the police, providing details and descriptions. That means calling in to report women who appear to be working the street, as well as their hovering pimps and the customers trolling for them. But, please DO NOT jeapardize your own safety in the process.

If you suspect a prostitute is underage, call 911 and a car will be sent over immediately!

For all other possible prostitution complaints, use the following numbers:
SFPD Vice Squad/Lt. Mary Petrie: (415) 970-3070
SF Police Department: (415) 553-0123

Important information to provide:
1) Description of the prostitute, the pimp, or the "customer"
i.e., hair color, skin color, facial hair, approximate height/weight

2) Description of the vehicle of the pimp or the "customer"
i.e., color, make, model...license plate number is especially helpful!

- Address or street/cross street

Mission Statement

The mission of the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association is to strengthen our community through safety and beautification efforts with an action-oriented, sociable emphasis.

GEOGRAPHY
Our geographic scope is from California to Broadway and Leavenworth to Van Ness. However, don't hold us to it. These are not a hard and fast boundaries, but rather guidelines for us to work with. We have to start somewhere.

Initial Neighborhood Meeting - Jan 18, 2007

About 60 Middle Polk area neighbors met at It's A Grind Coffee House to begin the organization of a formal neighborhood association that seeks to address our shared community concerns. Neighbor Frank Cannata greeted and registered attendees, and we solicited volunteers to participate in the early stages of forming an official group.

Neighbor Dawn Trennert led the meeting, as we heard from the following individuals from the community:

Speakers fielded questions about neighborhood issues and avenues to help. A follow-up meeting will take place on March 1 at 7pm, again at It's A Grind. The goal of the meeting is to continue bringing the neighborhood together in the creation of a formal group.
